1) Do you think the author really fell into holes in the sidwalk? What do you think the "holes" in this poem are a methaphor for? What kinds of "holes" have you fallen into in your life?
I don’t think he literally fell into holes. I think the holes represent a problem. Instead of just doing something at the first site of the problem, he waits, and hesitates, by then he has fell into the hole once again. After awhile he learns, he learns to just go a different route.
2) When I first read this poem, I thought of what's happening to your grades. Some of you seem to be stuck in hole #2: your grades go down; you pretend you don't see it; you have "F"s again; you can't believe you're in the same place; you say it isn't your fault; it takes you forever to get out or you don't get out at all. What hole are you in right now? Why do you think so?
I am in grade holes also, I cant believe that I have F’s. I feel like, im sick a lot, and so I stay home, miss the homework, and am to behind to make it up it feels like. Then I feel mad at myself for missing school. This cycle rotates everytime im sick and my grade drops more and more.
3) In terms of your grades, what do you have to do to reach step V and not fall into the hole of letting your grades drop? If you have already reached step V, how did you get there; and what advice can you give to the students who are stilling falling into "holes"?
Do your work as fast as possible. Get your work done, don’t procrastinate. Right when you get it do it. Also try to miss as least many days as posible and if you do before you leave, get the work from your teachers. Also do the work if your sick at home. I know I don’t feel like doing work when im sick but you will be digging your own grave.
